Jo Malone-Inspired Gift Wrap

Gift wrapping supplies are a home category that can easily spiral into excess. When I found myself pitching scads of soaking wet rolls of gift wrap and tissue paper after our basement flooded earlier this year, I decided to pare down what was salvageable to a thoughtful edit inspired by one of my favorite beauty brands. Jo Malone London is a luxury fragrance and beauty company that knows how to do gift packaging. They keep it simple with a chic palette of cream and black tied in a grosgrain bow. For holiday, they always add a pretty twist to their signature wrap with updated ribbons and accents. While the wide world of gift wrap is fun, there is no end to the variety and desire to keep acquiring more and more which tends to go unused, collect dust and take up space. With the thoughtful curation of a gift wrap wardrobe in a pretty palette, you elevate your wrapping game and your gifts will be your calling card.

I’m fairly good about not hoarding things, but I can never throw away a Jo Malone box, and as someone with a fair amount of their fragrances in my possession, I had quite a few boxes and spare ribbons saved. These supplies sparked the idea to create a Jo Malone-inspired gift wrap edit for the over-the-door gift wrap organizer in my craft room. I used some of the boxes to corral ribbon spools, mostly in shades of black and cream. In addition, I added spools of black and natural raffia, twine, and a few accent ribbons. The other boxes I saved store tags and stickers which I can use for personalizing while also covering the Jo Malone logo if I use one of the boxes for a gift.

I saved rolls of paper I had already that fall into this simple palette including a creamy leopard print, black & white stripe, and polka dots. When I run of of these, I’ll likely replace them with simple black and natural kraft papers, which are recyclable and compostable. In addition, I have a bulk supply of black tissue paper. I use Bonne Maman jelly jars to store bits and bobs like sprigs of preserved boxwood for affixing to a present, metallic markers, metallic pom poms, and offcuts of ribbon and twine. For Christmas, black and green velvet and gold metallic ribbons can dress up any neutral palette in a luxe way. I have just a few other rolls of metallic Christmas paper that were saved from the flood, but once I use them up I see no need to repurchase anything else that’s holiday- or occasion-specific in the future because this simple, neutral palette is appropriate for any occasion.
